Biotechnology in the American Corner

Attention! Our future healthcare emploees (hopefully) from class 3B spent an afternoon expanding their knowledge in the field of molecular biology. The Revolution of Protein Folding with AlphaFold was the theme that they learnt about. Getting to know how technology can affect biology research and develop new possibilities to cure a variety of illnesses gave our students a new perspective on choosing a future career path.

After getting to know the American culture and the possibilities of studying or working abroad we attended the lecture due to our main theme. Last but not least, after a portion of wisdom the students were given an important project-mission. By imagining they were a company ready to give away only 3 sponsorships, their task was to choose between a variety of global problem solutions and decide which one they wanted to support. In small groups, they had the opportunity to discuss their reasons behind every option. Each of them wanted to choose and at the same time develop their English-speaking skills. Each group’s presentations of their choices ended that wonderful meeting.

The feedback from our students: ‘The classes in the American Corner were very interesting thanks to the option of creating our topic; the classes were in a way personalized and tailored to our interests. The lecture was very interesting and encouraging to delve into the topic on our own.’

The second part of the class showed the importance of working in a group and finding compromises while doing it. ‘Thanks to this workshop, I learned a lot about proteins and their role in the environment, which is a very important and interesting topic’, said onother student. ‘We were pleased to attend that meeting and hopefully, we will come back soon.’
